Book-title poem/ The History of Love

Guardian Books has issued a National Poetry Day challenge: to compose a poem out of book titles selected from your bookshelf at home. Inspired by a reader who spied the idea in a blog by @Meandmybigmouth , the idea has taken off and readers are writing in to contribute their poems.

Here’s mine:

The History of Love

when we were orphans
we followed maps for lost lovers.

dancing backwards from the tree house
into the visible world  was always

the longest journey
